The System |
|
| That's my system. I had some problems getting power from the WebPlayer, so the computer in the background was used to power up the hard drive. The only drive I was able to use without any help was this old 4x CDROM drive. The small mouse like device in the middle is a USB SmartMedia reader. I use it for my Nomad and Olympus camera, but works great as a removable drive here. I had a hell of a time getting that LinkSys ethernet adapter to work. As it turns out, I inserted a 98se CD which I believe fucked up this 98 system. Anyway, a quick reformat and it worked. The only problem now is that it doesn't work with my SmartMedia reader plugged in at the same time. I'm thinking it must be a power thing... Maybe a powered hub will help. |

| What
to do when you have the wrong adapter, a 44pin cable, and plenty of
electrical tape... This is an extension cable for the adapter. Because of the way the female/male punchers were lined up on the connectors that I had, I had to customize it a little - Yup, I actually had to swap every second strand in this thing. I know what you're thinking - No, you can't just flip the connectors! I think. :-) This is pretty stupid folks, don't try it at home. I just didn't want to wait for another adapter to be shipped. |

| This
was a small piece of paper that I found this inside a box of a LinkSys
USB100TX ethernet adapter. I thought it was an appropriate desktop
background for the WebPlayer... :-) Here are the bitmaps if any of you guys want them: void300x65.bmp void400x86.bmp You may need to do a 'Right-Click, Save As' on these. |
